[ ]The 2004 Election
Was Bush really elected this time? It appears so and Kerry was probably right in his decision to conceed the day after the vote, but this does not mean that the election should be swept under the rug. We need to pressure the government on both the state and federal level and the media to continue with election reform and to absolutely eliminate any lingering doubts involving the 2004 election. Diebold voting machines, questionable exit polling, etc. We need to know what really happened on 11-2-2004.

[ ]Red America
The Democratic Party has written off the South, written off most of the Mid-West, and even written off most of the rural counties in the Blue States. Rather than writing off, in this presidential election, 53% of the vote, how can the party shift to engage and reclaim these votes? What are the values of the Red States? What motivates their vote? How can the Democrats engage these issues? Can they do it without sacrificing the values that make them Democrats?

[ ]The Future of the Democratic Party
What do the Democrats need to do to solidify their base, to solidify their message, and to carry it to the masses? After the election, a pundit said, “Off the top of my head I can think of two or three words to describe the Republican Party, but with the Democrats, I cannot do this.” There are vast divides in the Republican Party, but they manage to set them aside when it comes to getting their candidates elected. What can we learn from them? How can we change? Do we need a Democratic version of the Contract with America? Can we even be successful without sacrificing our morals and falling back on lies, dirty tricks, and other such Republican campaign maneuvers? At the very least, we need to define our message, define our future campaigns and we need to redefine the political debate in 2006 so our candidates are making the Republicans respond to us, not the other way around.

The news media has an awful record of missing important lies and actions by this administration. Here is a place to post and discuss news items and issues overlooked or buried by the mainstream media.

[ ]The Mandate
With a 3.5 or so percent margin in the popular vote, does the Bush administration really have a mandate for the second term? How can we keep this administration and the Republicans in general from using this as an excuse to dismantle our civil and economic rights and to continue destroying America’s status in the world? How can we keep the Democratic minority in Congress from caving in to this pressure, as well?

[ ]The Media
Journalism and political reporting in this country has hit a notable low point with this election. Listening to the major news channels, we hear little about the candidates’ stand on the various issues, but a lot about the horse race, the polls, who screwed up, who won the debate, and how it is going to effect the next poll. This is not political coverage, this is not news reporting; it bears more resemblance to a sportscast than to responsible journalism. Can it be fixed? At the very least, let’s share our sources so we can figure out what is really happening out there in this country and in the world.

[ ]The War on Terror
It’s there and it’s not going anywhere. Iraq, bin Laden, Rumsfeld, Bush… Are there more countries on the hit list? Can we, or should we, abandon Iraq? And what about that International Coalition?

[ ]Democracy In Distress
We need a movement, let’s make it happen! We need ideas, we need to spread the word, we need to challenge the candidates, politicians and leadership of both major political parties... We need to focus not only on the Presidency and Congress, but also on our state and municipal governments... We need to tap into and focus the energy behind the Dean and Kerry elections and we need, above all, debate and ideas on how to make this happen. Everything from suggestions on making this website better to building a real, sustainable grass-roots movements that cannot be ignored or denied by either the media or by the existing political structures in America. It’s our country; let’s make it better.

[ ]11-02-2005
The one-year anniversary of the first election won by GWB. How shall we mark the occasion? Protest, political action, boycotts, etc? What are your ideas? Early fall 2005 will also be about the time the political campaigns for the mid-term congressional elections kick into gear. Is there a way use activities on this date to promote candidates that have a real chance of reclaiming Congress?
