It appears so and Kerry was probably right in his decision to conceed the day after the vote, but this does not mean that the election should be swept under the rug. The Future of the Democratic Party What do the Democrats need to do to solidify their base, to solidify their message, and to carry it to the masses? After the election, a pundit said, “Off the top of my head I can think of two or three words to describe the Republican Party, but with the Democrats, I cannot do this.” There are vast divides in the Republican Party, but they manage to set them aside when it comes to getting their candidates elected. What can we learn from them? How can we change? Do we need a Democratic version of the Contract with America? Can we even be successful without sacrificing our morals and falling back on lies, dirty tricks, and other such Republican campaign maneuvers? At the very least, we need to define our message, define our future campaigns and we need to redefine the political debate in 2006 so our candidates are making the Republicans respond to us, not the other way around.
